The Cleveland Browns have one of the best pass rushers in the NFL in Myles Garrett. While the Browns have struggled over the years, Garrett has been a home run of a pick. Now, the team goes into 2023 with higher expectations now that quarterback Deshaun Watson will be playing a full season. They also upgraded many positions through free agency and trade. Still they need Garrett to have a big season. He revealed his personal sack goal on Tuesday at camp.
Cleveland Browns Myles Garrett Sack Goal
Garrett is coming off back-to-back 16 sack seasons but he wants more. When asked how many sacks he is aiming for, he simply said, “20”. This is a very ambitious goal as only eight players have hit the 20 sack mark since 1990. One of those was TJ Watt who had 22.5 in 2021. The good news for Garrett is while this is ambitious, the improvement of the team around him will help. New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is known for his aggressiveness on the defensive line and they added some key pieces.
New Weapons In Cleveland
Za’Darius Smith came over from Minnesota and while he is getting older, he has shown that he can still be a problem. The new pieces on offense should also help the defense. Elijah Moore was a great pick up from the Jets and will pair well with Watson. If the offense improves, the Browns should have more leads which will give Garrett what he needs, opportunities for sacks. If teams are in situations where they have to pass, Garrett can pin his ears back and go for the quarterback without having to worry about the threat of the run.
The goal has been set for Myles Garrett. The Cleveland Browns are looking to make some noise in the AFC North. Will it all come together or will the Browns struggle yet again?
