The Cleveland Browns continue to turn heads in the offseason. After making notable moves in the 2025 NFL draft, where they traded down from No. 2 to No. 5 in the first round and used two picks to select quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, the Browns turned their attention to the free-agent market.
The Browns did not select a wide receiver in the draft, but they got a new face in the WR room after signing veteran wideout Diontae Johnson to a one-year deal.
“Adding to our receiving corps! We’ve signed WR Diontae Johnson,” the Browns’ post on X (formerly Twitter) read to announce the team’s addition of Johnson.
Cleveland is the 28-year-old Johnson’s fifth team in the NFL. He previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. He spent five of his six years so far in the league with the Steelers from 2019 to 2024.
With the Steelers, he racked up 4,363 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns on 391 receptions and 639 targets through 77 games.
Fans react to Cleveland Browns’ Diontae Johnson announcement

However, Cleveland’s move was not universally loved by “Browns Nation”, as evidenced by the split reactions to the team’s post.
“Hopefully he gets his mental right because according to all his teams the last 2 years he’s been a headache! But if he is on the right headspace he could get back to 1k yardage and be an asset”
“Big move for Browns”
“Solid move.”
“Browns are very opportunist’s. first sanders and then Diontae 🔥🔥”
“What a locker room. Deshaun Watson, Shadeur Sanders, Jerry Jeudy, and Diontae Johnson.”
“Nice, a dude who couldn’t stay on one team for more than a couple months.”
