The Cleveland Browns waited till the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select quarterback Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado. The 23-year-old was widely expected to be a first round draft pick, possibly even a top -10 pick.
However, fans are noticing a tough start with the Browns’ franchise.
“Straight Disrespect” Shedeur Sanders Already Facing Humiliation From Browns (Report)

There are some complaints on social media accusing the Cleveland Browns of disrespecting and humiliating Shedeur Sanders:
The rookie quarterback has been assigned a number in Cleveland following his embarrassing draft slide, and it’s not the one he played with in college, which is also a part of his brand. Known for the No. 2 and “2Legendary’ merch, Shedeur isn’t going to get the number in the pros, with the Browns handing him the No. 12 instead, at least for now.
Of course, it’s Tom Brady’s old number, and Brady is his mentor. But we’re willing to bet the QB would have preferred to continue with 2.
As it stands, not only is he not getting the digit on his jersey, but it’s been given to someone else: eight-year veteran DeAndre Carter.
Fans feel the number assignment was deliberate on the Browns’ part and are ripping the team online.
“This is nuts,” one fan commented, pointing to Carter’s stats.
“Shedeur not even respected on his own team smh,” said another.
“The fact that yall even had to highlight the number change because yall know nobody will be happy with it is hilarious,” someone else commented.
“He couldn’t get 2 off of Deandre Carter? aw yea they don’t fw him frl😭,” another user shared
Numbers could switch before the season begins – and the team did note that they’re subject to change – so Shedeur could end up getting that No. 2 jersey in the pros.
But he will have to make do with 12 for now. And who knows? Maybe he’s happy with it. After all, it’s Brady’s old number, plus it’s his dad’s No. 21 backwards.
