The Cincinnati Bengals were in desperate need of a win against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday. Their rough start to the new season was on the brink of disaster if they suffered another loss in Week 3. Joe Burrow was well aware of the sense of urgency heading into their matchup against the Rams, and he made sure he would be ready to play.
Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow Speaks Out on Injury
There was a lot of talk surrounding Burrow’s calf injury heading into Monday’s contest. The Pro Bowl quarterback initially suffered the injury on the first day of Cincinnati’s training camp, which forced him to miss his team’s entire preseason.
Unfortunately, Burrow aggravated the injury in the Bengals‘ Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. This put his availability for the Rams game in question.
In spite of the risk, however, Burrow and the team decided that he had to play against LA. The 26-year-old shed light on this decision after Monday’s crucial win:
“It was all stuff that you weigh when you’re making that decision,” Burrow said, via a transcript from the team. “There is the risk to go out there and potentially re-injure it, but there’s also the risk to not go out there and be 0-3. So, I wanted to be out there for my guys, and I was confident that I would be able to do what I needed to to get the win.”
Burrow was far from a hundred percent, and it showed. He finished with 26-of-49 completed passes for 259 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. However, the fact that he was on the field was enough to help motivate his teammates to fight and scrap out a win.
Joe Burrow Did Not Have Any Setbacks Ahead of Week 3
While Burrow was a shadow of his real self against LA, the silver lining is that he was able to come out of the game unscathed. The Cincinnati superstar revealed after the game that he had not suffered any setbacks in the lead-up to Monday’s contest, which was a crucial factor in the team’s decision to give him the green light to play. Burrow escaped the win without incident, which bodes well for his health moving forward.
At this point, there’s nowhere to go but up for the former LSU standout.
