Cincinnati Bengals need to think about extending Joe Burrow
Joe Burrow has turned around the Cincinnati Bengals’ fortunes since he was drafted in 2020. Burrow has led the team to one Super Bowl appearance in his three seasons in Cincinnati. The team was a play, or call away, depending on who you talk to, from winning the AFC Championship game last postseason and going to back-back Super Bowls. With Burrow’s success, the team must consider extending him early on.
This week, Bengals executive vice president Kate Blackburn spoke with reporters at the League Annual Meeting. According to Jay Morrison of The Athletic, Blackburn said they’d had preliminary talks with Burrow’s representatives on his extension but didn’t have any other big news on the negotiations:
“We’ve been thinking about it,” she said. “But there’s free agency and such. So we’ll see if we can get into it a little bit more, maybe. It’s hard to say exactly the pace. But we hope there’s something that can get done. We sort of said we won’t talk about it much until there’s something to talk about.”
We’ll see if things escalate later in the summer. It’s still relatively early in the offseason.
