The holdout between defensive tackle Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs has officially ended, as the two sides have agreed to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport. While the financial information has not been reported on as of this writing, it will be interesting to see if the relationship is fractured with no long-term extension.
He has already lost $3.6 million this season as he was fined around $2 million for missing training camp, missed out on $500,000 for a workout bonus, and forfeited a $1.1 million game check for missing Thursday’s Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs desperately need Jones back in the lineup, as their defense was unable to get too much of a pass rush in their opening game.
Can the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl once again after ending Chris Jones’ holdout?
The Kansas City Chiefs have shown the ability to play competitively without Chris Jones but did not apply much pressure throughout the game. The more important piece is getting tight end Travis Kelce healthy, as it seemed like quarterback Patrick Mahomes could not have someone catch his passes consistently in the loss.
Chris Jones has shown the ability to play well as he is a four-time Pro Bowler on the defensive line and can continue to be the focus of the opposing offensive line. However, with him being on the field, it gives the Chiefs more options to play with, as other players on the defense will get openings to the backfield.
While the AFC is arguably the most loaded it has been since the Chiefs dynasty started, it will be difficult to see them making the Super Bowl. They have to be one of the favorites, but that all depends on the rest of the conference. With the AFC having 10 teams competing for seven playoff spots, the road is as difficult as ever.
