The Kansas City Chiefs were favored to win their Week 13 matchup in Green Bay against the Packers on Sunday Night Football. Not many were giving the Packers a chance to pull off the upset. However, when everything was said and done, the Packers were able to shock the world and come through with a massive 27-19 win over the Chiefs.
From the very beginning of the game, the Packers felt like they were in control. Jordan Love put up a masterclass performance and it was just too much for Kansas City to overcome.
With the loss, the Chiefs dropped to 8-4 on the season. There are many concerns about the team after the loss and many do not view them as one of the top contenders in the AFC anymore.
Why did the Chiefs end up losing to the Packers in a game that most thought they should win handily? Star defensive tackle Chris Jones revealed what he thinks cost them the game.
“A lot of missed tackles,” he went on with a deep sigh. “Fundamentals [weren’t] there today. Lot of guys out of gaps. I think that’s what cost us the game.”
Jones then went a step farther and called out the defense for the poor performance.
“Defense, can’t give up 27 points on the road in a hostile environment like this. It’s tough. It’s going to be tough to win games like this.”
What’s Next For The Kansas City Chiefs?
After losing to the Packers, the Chiefs know how important it will be to rebound in Week 14. In order to do that, they will have to defeat the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead. While the Bills are just 6-6 and on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture, the talent is unquestionably there for them to turn things around.
Patrick Mahomes and the offense have looked lost at times this season. Gone are the big plays down the field that used to make Kansas City so feared. Instead, they are struggling with frustration of missed big plays, the inability to move the ball in chunks, and no real answer to the problem.
Defensively, the Chiefs have to play better. They suffered quite a few injuries in Week 13, but that was no excuse. Love and the Packers’ offense simply outplayed them on almost every single drive.
Hopefully. the Chiefs can get things turned around in Week 14. A big home win over a team like the Bills could be exactly what Kansas City needs to get back on track.
Make sure to tune in to the Chiefs vs. Bills game next week at 4:25 p.m. EST on CBS to see if Kansas City can rebound from their disappointing loss to Green Bay.
