The Chicago Bears face some tough decisions in the coming weeks and months.
They have to decide whether they want to keep head coach Matt Eberflus. Leaks from insiders about the organization’s eyeing of potential replacements lend credence to the belief that the fate of the current 7-22 coach may be sealed.
If Eberflus gets let go, there’s real reason to believe that starting quarterback Justin Fields may be right behind him.
But whether Eberflus and Fields stay or go, there’s great opportunity coming for the Bears organization in next year’s draft. As things currently stand, Chicago is set to get the no. 1 overall pick (via their trade with the Carolina Panthers last season) as well as their own overall no. 4 pick. In total, they’ll be front loading talent with six draft selections within the first five rounds.
And, if the team plays it’s cards right, they could even further optimize THAT.
That’s where a quite interesting trade proposal comes into play.
The Chicago Bears Could Pull of a Massive Day-One Trade at the 2024 NFL Draft

The idea is for the Bears to trade away their overall no. 1 pick to the New England Patriots, who currently have the no. 2 pick right behind them. In exchange for the swap, the Bears would receive another Patriots pick (or two) further down the draft or, possibly, the following year.
This isn’t a new proposal, but it’s once again gaining steam as the organization looks to reorganize at the top without a full rebuild underneath.
Per NBC’s Alex Shapiro, the Bears could trade down to number two and pick up the Patriot’s first round pick, as well as their third round pick, and a 2025 fourth round pick.
This proposal assumes that Justin Fields will remain the starting quarterback and the foundation around which the offense is fortified. The trade would assure that they get Ohio State Mr. Everything wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (who Shapiro describes as “as blue-chip as blue-chip gets”) while giving the Patriots their choice of elite quarterback picks Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.
Paired with a proposed fourth round selection of Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt, the 2024 first round picks would serve to be cornerstone additions to the team’s offense.
Even if the Bears decide to move away from Fields to grab at one of the two elite-level quarterback prospects available, there remains the option of trading down to no. 2 in exchange for a couple of extra draft picks.
Pete Martuneac of Bearstalk.com envisions a scenario where a trade with the Patriots still bags them UNC’s Drake Maye at no. 2 overall along with New England’s second and third round picks for added organizational depth.
All in all, there are a lot of options for the Bears this coming draft and the organization, with their stunning trade with the Panthers last season (that is still paying dividends), has shown its willingness to make the most of high draft pick. We shall see how all this pans out.
