The Chicago Bears’ newest running back D’Andre Swift was quick to praise Bears quarterback Justin Fields in the wake of the 25-year-old, four-year veteran’s signing.
The former Philadelphia Eagle and Detroit Lion signed a three-year, $24.5 million deal with Chicago on Wednesday, making him the seventh-highest paid running back in the NFL. Back in 2018, he was Fields’ teammate at Georgia when the quarterback was a freshman. Swift and Fields maintain their friendship to this day.
Swift is a Justin Fields Fan
“Justin’s my guy,” Swift told media Thursday at Halas Hall before admitting that he hasn’t been in contact with Fields since agreeing to the deal that made him a Bear.
“I’ve always been a Justin Fields fan,” Swift added. “From Georgia to when he was in high school once I first found out about him. I feel like he hasn’t even touched the ceiling of who he can be. I’m excited to see him keep going.”
Fields, of course, is smack-dab in the middle of a quarterback controversy in Chicago and, many feel, very close to being traded away.
Chicago Bears Quarterback Controversy Rages
The Bear have the no. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL draft and are expected to select USC blue chip prospect Caleb Williams to take over the reins as the team’s new starting quarterback. This would make Fields expendable and a player to be used as trade bait for, perhaps, some draft capital– although the market for the talented, but sometimes inconsistent QB has dried up considerably over the last few days.
Supporters of Fields, who has posted a less-than-impressive 10-28 record as a starter in three years as a Bear, are a vocal minority in wanting to keep him on the team and build around him. They passionately champion his cause and point to the flashes of brilliance he has demonstrated throughout his three-year career and next-level on-field maturity he seemed to display in the second half of last season. Fields counts several teammates among his list of supporters, including wide receiver DJ Moore.
Swift, Staying in his Lane
Swift, though, is staying in his lane when it comes to the “Keep Justin/Trade Justin” debate.
“That’s a decision for the people up in those offices. I can’t really focus on that too much. I Have to worry about my job and my task at hand. I’m sure that’s a decision that they will make.”

Imagine Justin and Swift in same backfield add strong receivers include TE plus better line players and expectant better coaching team which looks good Here is my convincing argument imagine boat load of picks from Washington includng number 2 for J.Daniels whom I believe better than CW anyhow and can’t believe the added picks will make Bears a good chance to see them in Super bowl I have no doubt at least in playoffs I see plays with Daniels at QB and Justin with Swift in backfield with K.Allen with DJ.Moore plus a Nabors or/or What defensive call would you call for defensive positioning I say good luck I had that job as center lineback5er in a high end University in the 60’s DON’T LAUGH you will also get old but it will be hard to be a Bear fan as long as me 61 years. NO taking of CW as he will cause friction within overall team/Halas/players
