All eyes are on the Chicago Bears as we are getting near the 2024 NFL Draft. Admittedly, most of that attention is on their #1 overall pick. However, it is important to note that the Bears also hold the #9 overall pick in this draft.
This comes into play with who the Bears plan to meet with today. So, who is it? Well, it is someone who broke a record.
Chicago Bears Meeting With Texas Longhorns WR Xavier Worthy
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chicago Bears plan to meet with Texas Longhorns WR Xavier Worthy this afternoon. Worthy could be someone who is “worthy” of the Bears’ ninth overall pick.
This elite wide receiver certainly put on a show during the NFL Scouting Combine. How did Worthy do this? By recording the fastest 40-yard dash time in NFL Scouting Combine history (4.21 seconds).
This allowed Worthy to gain more attention than he was already getting with NFL scouts. As a result, he has entered the discussion to become a top 10 selection in the NFL Draft. Is this realistic?
Xavier Worthy’s Competition
Worthy does have some legitimate competition to be selected high in the NFL Draft. This could arguably be one of the deepest wide receiver classes in recent years. So, which wide receivers could potentially be selected above Worthy?
For starters, we have Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State University. Not only has he put up impressive numbers throughout his college football career, but he is also the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison. He was considered Peyton Manning’s top offensive weapon throughout his NFL career.
However, that is not all. We also have Malik Nabers coming out of LSU. Rome Odunze from Washington also stands out. He helped lead the Huskies to a remarkable national championship appearance last season.
How Xavier Worthy Stands Out
Worthy is more than just someone who can run a record-holding 40-yard dash time. He was also on a team that made the College Football Playoff last season with Texas. On top of this, he had 1,014 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions. This was the first time in three seasons that Worthy had over 1,000 receiving yards in one season.
Playing With Caleb Williams?
If the Bears decide to draft Worthy with the ninth overall pick, there is a chance Worthy could end up playing with USC QB Caleb Williams. Right now, he is projected to be the #1 overall pick. As a result, the Bears could end up with two elite offensive draft prospects that can change their identity.
