The Carolina Panthers have had a very busy free agency. The big move was trading for the number one overall pick in the upcoming draft but they have also made some other moves in free agency to help improve the team. The Panthers made another move yesterday signing versatile defensive back Eric Rowe.
Carolina Panthers Sign Eric Rowe
Rowe played very well for the Miami Dolphins last season. He played in 14 games and saw 60% of the defensive snaps as well as some on special teams. He had two sacks and also two passes deflected for the Dolphins last season. For the Panthers, he provides depth and experience to a reloaded secondary. Xavier Woods and free agent signing Vonn Bell will be the starters but Rowe should play mostly in the nickel. It is a great depth signing for the team.
Contenders In The NFC South?
Quarterback is a big question. Who the Panthers take with the number one overall pick and how that player performs will ultimately determine the fate of the team. However, the front office is doing everything it can to make sure that the quarterback has a great supporting cast. The NFC South is weak especially with Tom Brady retiring and leaving a void at quarterback for Tampa Bay. If the Panthers can stick around .500, they should be in the division race at the end of the season.
The Carolina Panthers signing of Eric Rowe isn’t the most exciting signing but it does signal how the team feels about their roster. They are looking to add depth and not fill huge holes. This is a sign of a team that is wanting to compete now. Everything hinges on the quarterback position. If they can hit in the draft, watch out for the Panthers.
