The Carolina Panthers are still trying to find the winning formula when it comes to winning football games. The team is still struggling to stand atop the NFC South, and it may take a while before they can even get a shot at winning as Bryce Young has failed to live up to expectations.
The rookie QB may have left plenty of Panthers fans frustrated with his quality of play, but he still has the potential to become a game-changer for Carolina.
Meanwhile, the next player off the board turned out to be a fantastic signal-caller for the Houston Texans. CJ Stroud was calm and collected as he led the Texans to an incredible playoff run that saw them beat their preseason predictions.
Since the two young QBs were selected so close to each other, it was natural that they would be getting compared for their entire careers. However, one recent report paints an interesting portrait of the 2023 Draft.
Wife of Carolina Panthers owner wanted to pick CJ Stroud instead of Bryce Young
Tzvi Machlin of The Spun wrote about this revelation, which is first shared by NFL insider Adam Schefter:
Appearing on Pardon My Take, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that Nicole Tepper – wife of Panthers owner David Tepper – was a “big C.J. Stroud fan” leading up to the draft.
“If you’re the Panthers and you made that trade… and – I like to tease the owner – his wife was a big C.J. Stroud person. She likes C.J. Stroud,” Schefter said.
It’s easy to say that the wife preferred Stroud over the QB they eventually got. The 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year’s stats also make such a claim easy: Stroud threw for 4108 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the team to a respectable 9-6 record.
Meanwhile, Bryce Young struggled in his first year in the pros. While he had 16 starts, he only managed to win two games on the back of 2877 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and 10 picks.
If there’s anything that the Carolina Panthers should be reminded of, it’s to provide their young QB with all of the tools he needs to succeed. If he’s as good as what they believed him to be, he should be able to meet these expectations.

If you want to find part of the problem, allyou need do is look at the panthers receiving corps or lack there of. Second to that would be offensive line.
While Tepper and his wife are involved in any football decisions,
we will be trading away the first overall pick for years.
