The Carolina Panthers seem to be confident about their chances in 2023. Despite the likelihood of rookie Bryce Young at quarterback, the team has signed many veteran pieces to pair with their budding young talent. Players like Miles Sanders and Adam Theilen were signed. The Panthers have added another veteran presence to the team but this time on defense with Justin Houston.
Carolina Panthers Sign Justin Houston
Houston is entering his 13th season in the NFL. Carolina ranked 25th in sacks last season despite having Brian Burns on the line. Houston gives the Panthers a great option to line up opposite Burns. The veteran has 111.5 sacks in his career including 9.5 last year with the Baltimore Ravens. Frank Reich was likely a catalyst for this signing. Houston played under Reich in Indianapolis from 2019-2020.
Can The Panthers Take The South?
With every singing, the Panthers continue to look like a strong team. Reich and his coaching staff have had success in the past at other places. The defense played well last year and has added a couple more pieces. The questions are really on offense. Young is a rookie quarterback and that alone comes with many questions. Does Theilen have anything left in the tank? Is Sanders still a high-level running back? If the offense cannot figure out how to score points, it won’t matter how good their defense is.
The Carolina Panthers have to be happy to have another veteran Justin Houston on the team. The NFC South is a weaker division and is up for grabs. If a couple of things go right for the Panthers, they could be looking at a playoff berth.
