Carolina Panthers fans have had it rough compared to some of the other NFL fanbases. With the team dealing with mediocrity across the table, it’s been a tough couple of years for the fans who continue to support them.
While there are still Panthers fans who are hoping for better days to come, their hopes to see their team play winning football faced a new setback as one of their top defensive players was shipped off in exchange for a couple of picks.
The trade is a shocker for many among the Panthers fandom, and one popular supporter has publicly declared that he’s done with anything to do with the team.
Country superstar Luke Combs shares his anger after massive Brian Burns trade
The Spun’s Matt Hladik reported country artist Luke Comb’s reaction after the team traded their star defensive end for a paltry return of picks. It’s clear to see that the musician is sick of the team’s seemingly pointless approach to building a winning roster:
“WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!? No first round pick for McCaffrey a few years back and now none for Burns?!?! Are we just fire bombing the whole team here or what? I usually don’t comment on these kinds of things but it’s just becoming slow torture at this point,” Combs wrote.
Burns had a productive season despite playing for one of the worst teams in the NFL last season. He finished his final season with the Panthers with eight sacks, 32 solo tackles, 16 TFLs, 18 QB hits, two pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
The fact that they rejected an offer from the Los Angeles Rams that offered two first-rounders and a second-round pick last offseason leaves a more bitter taste in the fans’ mouth.
Does the Carolina Panthers know what they’re doing?
The Carolina Panthers seem to be going in circles even for the most understanding Panthers fan. While the mid-season trade that sent Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers was a painful loss, they managed to find a decent replacement as Chuba Hubbard stepped up in his first season as the team’s RB1.
However, it’s almost difficult to see where the Panthers are going with shipping off Burns without a solid plan. Frankie Luvu, the next-best pass rusher for the Panthers in 2023, moved on to the Washington Commanders. Yetur Gross-Matos and Derrick Brown were the only other players in the Panthers defense who manage do to snag more than one sack through the 2023 season.
Unless the Carolina Panthers have a master plan that would see them turn a diamond in the rough into an elite pass rusher, Panthers fans will be in for another season of painfully middling defense.
