The Carolina Panthers had the worst record in the NFL last season, finishing just 2-15. As a result, the Panthers have had a major overhaul of their coaching staff. Carolina previously announced that they were going to hire Dave Canales as their next head coach. Now, the Panthers have announced the coordinators that will work with Canales.
Carolina Panthers Announce Coordinators
The Carolina Panthers released an official statement as to who their coordinators will be. One of them is a familiar face to the organization. That is defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Carolina has announced that they are going to retain him along with most of Evero’s defensive coaching staff.
Along with this, the Panthers are bringing in two people Canales has worked closely with. Brad Idzik will be the offensive coordinator and Tracy Smith will be the special teams coordinator. Idzik worked with Canales in Tampa Bay and Smith worked with Canales in Seattle. Now, these two will get both a promotion and a chance to reunite with Canales.
Carolina Panthers Moving Forward
The Panthers have their work cut out for them considering they do not have a first-round draft pick for the upcoming draft. However, the coaching staff assembled does have potential. Evero led the Panthers to be the fourth-ranked total defense despite their offense struggling.
Plus, Canales and Idzik helped the Buccaneers show remarkable improvement on offense in 2023. This was particularly noticeable with QB Baker Mayfield and WR Mike Evans. Now, the Panthers look to build off this in 2024.
