Ryan Wingo is no stranger to the Arkansas program. His brother Ronnie played at the program from 2009-2012. While Ryan might’ve been very young when Ronnie played, Arkansas still remains a special place to him.
“I have the chance to play for the same school as my brother. It brings a smile to my face because I dreamed of it growing up,” said Wingo.
Ryan Wingo Player Profile
Wingo is currently ranked as the best player in Missouri and the No. 5 player in the nation by 247’s player composite rankings. He’s arguably the best receiver in the nation for the 2024 recruiting class.
Wingo brings an elite combination of size and athleticism to the field. Standing at 6-2, Wingo is taller than most of the cornerbacks he will face. He also brings track speed to the field, running a 10.64 100m and a blazing 21.64 200m in 2022.
According to On3’s Charles Power, Wingo “can take the top off of defenses with ease but is not just a straight line player. His ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces and finish runs is rare for someone with his long speed.”
Essentially Wingo can line up anywhere on the field, whether on field side, boundary, or slot and make plays. In Kendal Briles’ offense, Wingo will certainly be asked to stretch the field with his speed. Wingo has also lined up at RB at times in high school, and he’s very adept at hitting the hole quickly. Briles could install packages where Wingo is lined up in the backfield at times as well.
Arkansas’ chances
The big question for many Hog fans is whether Sam Pittman can land Wingo. The good news is that Wingo seems to have enjoyed his time on the Hill thus far.
Wingo informed On3’s director of recruiting, Chad Simmons, that he really liked what he saw in Fayetteville. “I loved the vibe at Arkansas. My brother played there, so I had been before, but I love the fans. Coach Sam Pittman is doing a very good job and I like everything Arkansas is doing.”
No 247 crystal balls or Rivals futurecasts have been out on Wingo yet. This means it’s anyone’s ball game to poach the St. Louis product away from home.
