Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has one more year remaining on his contract with the franchise. With a lot of uncertainty at the quarterback position for Minnesota, can he reunite with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase on the Cincinnati Bengals?
A lot of it is going to depend on what the Vikings do at the quarterback position. Kirk Cousins is a free agent and Minnesota may decide not to re-sign him. Jefferson is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and he needs a new contract extension.
Justin Jefferson missed some games last season due to injury. Even with missing some games, he caught 68 passes for 1,074 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 15.8 yards per reception. If Jefferson stayed healthy the entire season, he would have had been easily over 1,500 yards receiving.
Justin Jefferson Played College Football With Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase
One of the main reasons why Jefferson reuniting with Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase with the Cincinnati Bengals is possible is because they were teammates on the LSU Tigers during the 2019-2020 season, where they won the National Title.
Can you imagine an offense with Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson on the same football team? That would be hard to stop and it would finally be an offense that can take down the Kansas City Chiefs. Cincinnati just franchise tagged Tee Higgins and could that open the door of a Jefferson and Higgins swap?
Tyler Boyd is a free agent and the Bengals may very well not bring him back. Who even knows, maybe Jefferson would take a slight pay cut to be on Cincinnati in order to try and win a Super Bowl.
Joe Burrow only completed 66.8% of his passes for 2,309 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six touchdowns last season with Cincinnati. He didn’t play after the 11/16 game against the Baltimore Ravens because of a season-ending injury.
Ja’Marr Chase also was banged up last season. Despite it, he caught 100 passes for 1,216 yards receiving, and seven touchdowns, along with averaging 12.2 yards per reception. Having two 1,000-yard receivers on the field for the Bengals would be scary.
However, the Minnesota Vikings having Tee Higgins and Jordan Addison as there top wide receivers on the roster isn’t a bad thing. Jefferson would prefer to play with a veteran quarterback who knows how to get him the football rather than a rookie.
