The Cougars returned home this Saturday to play the Wyoming Cowboys. After a slow start to the Cougar offense, BYU came away with the victory. The Cougar’s defense once again struggled to stop a team with a bad offense. BYU had a better game than the first half but lost some players in the second half. BYU won 38-24
Players who Stood Out
Brayden Cosper
Brayden Cosper had a great game for the Cougars on offense. He had 58 yards on four receptions and two touchdowns. Cosper has been one of those young receivers who have been stepping up with Nacua and Romney out.
Micah Harper
Harper played a good game for the defense and stepped up for the backfield when many others just couldn’t make tackles last night. He had six tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss. Harper is a great player and needs to continue to produce for the Cougar defense as they have an easy game this week but then some harder ones in the next couple of weeks.
John Nelson
Nelson had a game for the defensive line with a couple of key players out. He had one tackle. one sack and one tackle for loss. Nelson is only a sophomore so he could potentially become a starter in the next couple of years if he continues to make big plays when they count.
Players with a Big game
Keanu Hill
Keanu Hill this week played a great game and stepped up for the Cougar Offense. Hill had himself a game and I see him continue to play this way and become one of the wide receivers that Hall can trust down the stretch. He put up 160 yards for five receptions and two touchdowns.
Ben Bywater
Bywater again this week stepped up and played defense when many others struggled to do so. He had five tackles and one tackle for loss. Bywater will need to continue to play the way he is if the defense wants to not look too bad.
Jaren Hall
Hall reached 4,000 passing yards last night. He had 337 passing yards and four touchdowns. Hall also rushed for 17 yards. He is looking like an NFL quarterback who could one day play in the league for one of the 32 teams.
Miles Davis
Davis had a big game for the running backs and had some big rushes to help keep the Cougar’s offense going. He rushed for 131 yards on 13 carries. Davis is just a freshman looking like the one who is going to get reps in the game as a running back because the other backs are struggling.
Players who struggled
Christopher Brooks
Brooks is not producing like Cougar Nation thought he would. A transfer from California who is playing his last year at BYU is not looking like he is this experienced. He only rushed for 10 yards last night and only has 204 yards on the season.
George Udo
Udo cost the Cougars some yards last night. He also gave up some big gains.
Takeaways
Offense
Hall had another big game for the Cougars. Nacua returned and then left again reports are that it’s not season-ending which is a great thing for the Cougars because they are going to need him against Arkansas and Notre Dame. Romney warmed up but didn’t go again so he still hasn’t played yet this year for the Cougars. The line is not looking like many people thought it would. The running backs also need to figure something out so the offense can put up more yards there as well.
Defense
The defense is struggling and they still haven’t fixed it. They have been without some starters but that shouldn’t matter if they have the dept they say they do. Wilgar hasn’t been playing like he usually does and the rest of the linebackers are struggling to make tackles.
Special Teams
Oldroyd handle the kickoffs and did great there. Rehkow has a leg and showed it once again last night. Justen Smith came in and kicked the field goals for the Cougars after Oldroyd struggled the past two weeks.
