The Cincinnati Bengals will have a very interesting offseason, as many players are free agents and a few extension candidates as well. Cincinnati currently has $53.14 million cap space, but they must free up as much cap space as possible for them to re-sign Ja’Marr Chase, Trey Hendrickson, Tee Higgins, and Mike Gesicki and sign other outside help since the team has a lot of team needs. The Bengals did not waste any time today and made their first significant roster move of the offseason.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Bengals released Sheldon Rankins, freeing $9,617,647 in cap space and incurring a dead cap hit of $2 million for 2025. With the release of Rankins, they should have around $62.76 million.

The veteran defensive tackle had a disappointing lone season with Cincinnati

Sheldon Rankins had a disappointing lone season with Cincinnati, missing early in the season (Weeks 3-5) with a hamstring injury and their last seven games with viral meningitis. When Rankins played, he struggled against the run and rushing the passer. He recorded 18 tackles, four pressures, one TFL, one QB hit, six stops, and one sack in seven games and seven starts.
