Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo couldn’t help but rub salt into the wound of Josh Allen after the Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round on Sunday.
The Bills had a good chance to make it to the AFC championship. Not only were they playing at home, but the Chiefs have also largely struggled offensively in the season. If there’s a time to take down the reigning Super Bowl champions, it’s on the divisional round, a week after Patrick Mahomes and Co. got into an exhausting battle with the Miami Dolphins.
While the Bills fought hard and appeared to be in control, they ended up failing big time. A failed Tyler Bass field goal denied them a chance to tie the game, and the Chiefs held on for the 27-24 victory.
Speaking on CBS following the intense game, Romo couldn’t help but highlight how big of a waste it is for Allen and the Bills, even going as far as to saying that it’s the “most devastating loss” in Allen’s pro career.
“This is going to be the most devastating loss of Josh Allen’s career because they had things situated for an advantage. They were at home, they worked all year, they were playing great football. They were coming in and they started the game great, they were running the ball. And for him [Allen], he played great today. He played outstanding,” Romo shared.

While it may seem harsh, Romo makes a great point. When Allen looks back at his career when it’s all said and done, there’s a good chance he would remember the said loss to the Chiefs considering how close they were to winning. That could be the case even more if Allen fails to win a Super Bowl.
Tony Romo Gets Real on Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills’ Patrick Mahomes Problem
Romo furthered that it definitely stings for Allen. Making it even more frustrating is the fact that he needs to shoulder the responsibility since he’s the leader of the team.
The ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback did encourage Josh Allen to “keep going” and believe that he’ll be able to break through. Nonetheless, he also pointed out that for Allen to win the Super Bowl, he needs to figure out how to outplay Patrick Mahomes.
“It’s always going to fall on his shoulders, him and the head coach because he’s the quarterback. But it’s just so hard to take if you’re Josh Allen because what else can I do? And the truth is just keep going doing it, you’ll break through eventually. Problem is 15 is really good. Patrick Mahomes, he ain’t just gonna let you do it. You’ve got to go win it and take it from him. To be the man, you got to beat the man,” Tony Romo added.
Allen will have another full offseason to work on his craft. Hopefully, he’ll have another crack with the Buffalo Bills at the playoffs next season.
