The Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen luckily came out with a huge win against the Los Angeles Chargers to keep their playoff hopes and AFC East Divisional Champs hopes alive. The game was much closer than many may have thought it would be, coming down to the last play where the Chargers flipped the ball around and may have had a chance, but the game ended 24-22 with the Bills keeping their red hot December going.
The Bills playoff chances sky rocketed after the win, and now they just have to win out to take home the AFC East Division title. The Chargers with a new head coach definitely came to fight and fight hard, but at the end they came out just a bit short of a huge upset and perhaps ruining the Bills playoff hopes let alone their eyes on the AFC East title.
With huge plays from Gabe Davis and others, the Bills were able to come out with the win and now are just two wins away from a very improbable road to lock up the AFC East and get a home playoff game. Following many embarrassing losses earlier in the season the Bills now have all of their goals in front of them, and in a season where all the other AFC teams have had flaws and injuries, will this be the improbably year the Bills get over the hump and make the Super Bowl?
Are The Buffalo Bills A Real Super Bowl Contender?
Gabe Davis gave Buffalo a huge spark offensively and got them going in a game where they started off quite sluggish. Now Buffalo is in the drivers seat to win the division if they can win out, specifically a huge week 18 matchup with the Miami Dolphins should decide the division. The Dolphins have been in the drivers seat for the division all year, and have been fighting to even get the number 1 seed of the conference, but now as the regular season is coming to a close the race has gotten much tighter than anyone could’ve predicted.
Buffalo has to overcome some demons this upcoming week, as they took an embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots earlier in the year. If they can get the win and overcome that hurdle they will look to win their final game of the regular season and be in a great position to make huge noise in the playoffs.
The Chargers definitely gave Buffalo a run for their money, but quarterback Josh Allen didn’t take anything for granted. In his post game interview Allen was humble and hungry saying:
“They came out and they played hard. They had a really good game plan,” Allen said. “It’s tough, because when you’re playing a team with nothing to lose, that’s a dangerous team. That was a dangerous team we played today. We gutted it out and we found a way.”
Allen and the Bills know they are already in playoff mode with each game being crucial to their chances to get to the dance. Allen continued saying:
“Still some season left, we have to finish on our own terms, and just try to find a way to get in. This is our playoffs. Doesn’t matter how we get them done, just get them done.”
Buffalo will have to fight hard, but if they can get to the playoffs there isn’t any team in the AFC that would want to face them. With their experience in the post season and the hunger they have after taking painful playoff losses this a team that knows the Super Bowl is the only thing that matters. It would be ironic to say the least, if Buffalo finally gets to the promise land in a year where they have looked like a non playoff team at many points. But the NFL season always comes with major twists and turns and it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing if the Bills are playing important ball deep into the playoffs.
