The Broncos have learned a frightening lesson over the weekend: While many people undervalue them, it is difficult to be an offensive linemen in the modern day. Maintaining your body at over 300 pounds and also building on muscle mass and athleticism is an unbelievably tricky combination. Most athletes who play on the offensive line immediately attempt to lose weight upon retirement. Sometimes it can lead to adverse health effects that can be frightening to not only the players but the rest of the team.
Broncos OL Rushed to Hospital after Week 14
During the Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, offensive guard Quinn Meinerz played through the game in the first half with an undiagnosed illness. He was forced the leave the game in the second half with the illness though and was reportedly rushed to the hospital later in the night with a reportedly elevated heartbeat.
It was reported on Monday afternoon by Denver field reported Zac Stevens that Meinerz was released and was reportedly feeling fine.
Great news: Quinn Meinerz has been cleared to leave the hospital in Los Angeles and will return to Denver today, Sean Payton announced.

Aftermath for the Denver Broncos
While one can speculate on a large amount of things that could have caused the illness, it is remarkable that the young guard attempted to play with such an illness at all. There should be a much more strict rule of preventing players from playing with serious illnesses. What would have happened if Meinerz had fainted during the game? Would be be having the same discussions as we are now?
Obviously it is wonderful that Meinerz is feeling better afterward but the league needs to do a better job of protecting its players.
Meinerz was a third round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Meinerz is one of the few athletes in the NFL to come from a Division III college and succeed in the national football league. Meinerz is known for a mean streak that encapsulates the perfect mindset of an offensive guard.
Over the past several seasons, Meinerz has become one of the best guards in the national football league as the Denver offensive line has become one of the leagues best units. No status was announced as to the severity of his illness or if he will be able to return to practice quickly after the incident.
Denver will desperately be missing Meinerz as they attempt to complete a dramatic surge late in the season to make the playoffs. Denver has won six of their last seven games and is currently tied for a wild card spot with several other teams. Denver will take on the struggling Lions in Week 15 as it attempts to close out the season on a strong note.
