The San Francisco 49ers have been dealing with a handful of injuries throughout the last few weeks and they just announced another one. Quarterback Brock Purdy has been placed in concussion protocol and is going to be listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s Week 9 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Kyle Shanahan said Brock Purdy is now in concussion protocols.

The 49ers are going to likely be without Purdy as no player has entered concussion protocol and played in the same week this year. That means Sam Darnold will likely be making his season debut in this game.
Brock Purdy has started to begin to show signs of struggling throughout the last few weeks but still has done well as he is 131-of-193 (67.9 completion percentage) for 1,668 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.
What should we expect out of the San Francisco 49ers going forward without Brock Purdy?
The San Francisco 49ers have a lot of injuries going forward as they are already without wide receiver Deebo Samuel missing the next couple of weeks. Brock Purdy missing Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals could be a blessing in disguise for the offense.
Kyle Shanahan has shown the ability to dominate without allowing the quarterback to do much. Look at the way he used Jimmy Garoppolo in the playoffs heading to their Super Bowl run a handful of years ago. Shanahan is going to be able to hide the issues but Brock Purdy has struggled in the last few games. Diving into his last two games, he has two touchdown passes to three interceptions and averages less than 200 passing yards per game.
This 49ers roster still has a lot of talent with guys like running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and tight end George Kittle. This offense is dominant as they are averaging 28.7 points per game and you can argue Purdy is their weakest link on this side of the football.
They face decent but not great defenses coming up with the Cincinnati Bengals, a bye week, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I would suspect Purdy would be fine after the bye week but this is still something to expect being a blessing in disguise.
San Francisco allowing Purdy to sit down and realize his mistakes could help him in the long run and make this 49ers team back to being the dominant team they were to begin the year.
