Minnesota fans over the course of the season have been demanding that the Vikings fire Ed Donatell as their defensive coordinator. Today their wish has come true. Head coach Kevin O’Connell released a statement saying that they are parting ways with Ed Donatell.

Ed Donatell was in charge of the Vikings defense that ranked 31st in the league this year. Here are some of the defensive ranks from the defense this season.
- Total yards per game: 31st – 388.7 yards
- Rushing yards per game: 20th – 123.1 yards
- Passing yards per game: 31st – 265.6 yards
- Yards per Play: 30th – 5.9 yards
- Time of Possession: 26th – 30:45 minutes
- Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD Only): 21st – 57.14%

These were just a few of the issues the Vikings had on defense. It was also the cause of Minnesota losing to the Giants in their wildcard game. You can’t have your defense give up five drives of 75-plus yards and expect to win a playoff game. You can’t let Daniel Jones throw for over 300 yards when he averages less than 200 a game. It was a long time coming and Vikings fans can now rejoice in the fact that he is gone. Daniel Jones looked like an MVP candidate twice against the Vikings.
The Vikings will now begin searching for their new defensive coordinator for the 2023 season, with expectations of having their defense be much improved.
