What a disappointment. My goodness was that painful to watch at the end. The Gophers lost to Iowa 13-10 for the eighth consecutive time in their rivalry. Minnesota is now out of the running for the Big 10 west with a loss. The only way to sum up this loss is terrible play calling. Gopher fans deserved better than this. The players deserved better than this and P.J. should be ashamed of the coaching that took place this afternoon. With that let’s take a look at my Minnesota Gophers Week 12 takeaways. The Iowa Hawkeyes (6-4) travel to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Gophers (7-3) on Saturday at 4:00 pm (EST) at Huntington Bank Stadium. Minnesota is a 2.5-point favorite and is given a 68.0% chance to win according to ESPN’s FPI. The matchup is key as both teams still seek to claim the Big 10 west title. Since Illinois plays #3 Michigan this week (and will likely lose), it would mean that if Iowa wins, they control their own destiny. If Minnesota wins they would still need Purdue to lose, who would be in control of their own destiny. Regardless,…

With Iowa and Minnesota getting ready to face off this coming week I thought it’d be a good time to go back and take a look at the history of the Floyd of Rosedale and how it all began. I will also take a look at this year’s matchup and all the implications it holds for the Big 10 west race. How It All Began The story of the Floyd of Rosedale dates all the way back to 1934 (though these two had been playing since 1891). The Gophers won the game 48-12, but another story took center stage. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! That was epic! I can’t believe how that game went down. You couldn’t have scripted something this crazy. Anyway, what a win for the Vikings. Minnesota went into Buffalo and upset the Bills in a 33-30 OT thriller. The Vikings got down early, going into halftime behind 24-10. It got worse when the Bills kicked a field to go up 27-10 in the third. The Vikings then scored 20 unanswered points, starting with a Dalvin Cook 81-yard rushing touchdown.
