Week 15 saw the Jacksonville Jaguars take a double-whammy. Not only did they lose to the Baltimore Ravens 23-7, but starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence also end up sustaining a head injury.
Lawrence was able to finish the game, but head coach Doug Pederson revealed in his postgame presser that their rising star is heading to the concussion protocol after sustaining multiple hits during the Sunday night contest.
Pederson confirmed that Lawrence sustained the injury during his three scrambles in their final possession, though he’s uncertain in which exact play it occurred. it’s worth noting that one of the hits on Lawrence include a vicious tackle from Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith.“In Trevor’s case, he was evaluated after the game and he’ll actually enter the protocol,” Pederson shared, via Sports Illustrated.
It’s certainly a concerning development for the Jaguars, especially since they are now on a three-way tie with the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans for the AFC South top seed. All three teams have an 8-6 record, though they have the slight advantage after beating both teams in their previous meetings this 2023 season. Jacksonville is 2-0 against Indianapolis and 1-1 against Houston.
Trevor Lawrence’s health is certainly going to be a huge factor in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ chances to make the postseason. It’s something to monitor as the week progresses.
The Jaguars play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16, followed by match-ups against the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans to cap off the year.
Will Trevor Lawrence Play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16?
It’s certainly hard to know whether Trevor Lawrence will be given the greenlight to play in Week 16 after entering the concussion protocol. But if there’s one thing fans know about their quarterback, he doesn’t back down and continues to play even if he’s ailing.
Remember, Lawrence suffered an ankle injury in Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he didn’t let it prevent him from suiting up in Week 14 against the Cleveland Browns.
That’s not the first time Lawrence battled through a health issue, as he did the same after sustaining a knee injury in Week 6. Lawrence has yet to miss a game this 2023 campaign.
Hopes are high that Lawrence will be able to play in Week 16. If he can’t, it will certainly be troublesome for the Jacksonville Jaguars and a major blow to their playoff chances. If Lawrence ends up being sidelined, the Jaguars will rely on backup signal-caller CJ Beathard to take over the quarterback duties.
