On March 13th, the Titans signed back an important piece to their team’s success, running back Julius Chestnut. He signed a one year deal to remain with the team.
A lot of NFL fans will look at this signing and not think much of it but to Titans fans, they understand what Chestnut can do for the team and why he’s been around the team for two years now.
What Chestnut Brings to the Titans
Though Chestnut’s stats will not pop off a page like some other talented players in the league, he holds great importance to the Titans’ success. He is a running back from Sacred Heart University who signed with Tennessee as an undrafted free agent in the offseason of 2022.
Chestnut made the team as a rookie in the 2022 season and made the team again in the 2023 season, only for it to be cut short when he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury three weeks into the season.
“It was hard, an adjustment definitely,” Chestnut said of last season. “But I had people around me helping me out, and I tried to use the time to get better.”
Chestnut played in 9 games in 2022 and in the first three matchups of the 2023 season before his injury. Over his first two seasons, Chestnut has made his mark as a solid player for the Titans’ special teams units. He has 9 career carries for 12 yards and has shown flashes of potential in his preseason playing time.
After signing this new deal with the team, Chestnut is looking forward to getting the chance to put himself in the mix at runningback with Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, while also continuing his great run as a special teams player.
