Texans linebacker Denzel Perryman has been suspended for “repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect health and safety of players.” The official report states that this was Perryman’s seventh career violation, with his previous violation prior to Sunday coming in Week 2.
This past Sunday versus the Cincinnati Bengals, Perryman lowered his head and “delivered a forceable blow to the shoulder and then the head/neck area of the receiver”, according to the NFL.

Texans dealt a blow
Ian Rapoport first reported this and for Perryman, he’s now set to miss the next three games. The Texans will be without their veteran linebacker for games against the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Denver Broncos.
Perryman will be able to return on December 4th, and the first game he’ll be eligible to play in following this suspension will be against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
The ninth-year linebacker was originally drafted by the then San Diego Chargers out of the University of Miami, and after spending six years with the Chargers he joined the Raiders for two seasons. This past off-season, he signed with the Houston Texans.
This season, he has recorded 41 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and he’s suited up for six of the Texans’ nine games. In the official report, it’s noted that Perryman violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 10, which states “it is a foul if a player lowers his head and makes forcible contact with an opponent.” Since Perryman had received six violations for personal fouls similar, it is no surprise that he was suspended following Sunday’s contest versus the Bengals.

The NFL has made a conscious effort to prioritize the safety of their players, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched to anticipate similar suspensions being handed out this season and in future years.
