The NFL isn’t a stranger to off-the-filed incidents when the Super Bowl ends and there is a lull between free agency, the draft, the combine and eventual minicamps.
Former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, who has launched a media career since retiring, has been arrested for DUI, according to Fox 13 in Seattle.
The Washington State Patrol confirmed to Fox 13 that the arrest happened on Saturday morning. Per the report, the King County Jail roster shows Sherman was booked at 4:51 a.m. PT.
WSP told Fox 13 that this incident remains under investigation. No further details will be released until the prosecutors make an official filing.

The arrest raises other potential complications for Sherman. In March 2022, he pleaded guilty to first-degree negligent driving, second-degree criminal trespass, and speeding in a construction zone back. The underlying incident happened in July 2021.
Via Fox13, Sherman received a 90-day suspended sentence, with two years of monitored supervision. The two-year period has not yet expired.
Back in March of last year Richard Sherman pleaded guilty to first-degree negligent driving and second-degree criminal trespass, as well as speeding in a construction zone, as part of a plea deal reached Monday in King County District Court.
According to court documents, RIchard Sherman was required to pay $2,500 for the two misdemeanor charges and the traffic infraction, and additional court fees.
Sherman was given a 90-day suspended sentence for each count, with two days credit given from his initial arrest. He was assigned to have monitored supervision for the next two years. He will not serve any further jail time unless he violates the terms of the agreement.
Sherman — who thrived in the NFL for 11 seasons mostly with the legendary Seattle Seahawks Legion of Boom — was ordered to stay out of any further trouble, which includes any criminal, alcohol or drug-related offenses.
This new DUI obviously falls under an alcohol-related offense, so there’s a chance the former Seahawks great will have to spend time behind bars.
Sherman crashed his vehicle in a construction zone before abandoning the car and continuing to the home of his in-laws in Redmond. Sherman then damaged the home while having a verbal argument through a locked door with the occupants of the house.
Richard Sherman was initially booked for residential burglary with a domestic violence component, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. The domestic violence aspect was because of Sherman’s relationship with the people at the residence, not physical assault. The criminal mischief charge was a result of the damage he caused to the door of the residence.
As conditions of his sentence, Sherman is required to have a mandatory interlock device on his vehicle. Sherman has also been ordered to attend Alcohol and Drug Information School and attend a DUI Victim’s Panel
There’s been no word from the NFL and it’s unclear if the league can take any action against a retired veteran in a case like this.

And yet these people continue to get paid lots and lots of money to be the face of sports media. If people like Alex Rodriguez, Ray Lewis, and Michael Irvin can get and keep high-profile jobs after all they’ve done in their pasts, then it is not surprising that more think they are above the law.
