Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty will no doubt be selected in the Top 12 in the 2025 NFL Draft. It would be a major surprise if he slipped past the Dallas Cowboys 12 overall.

Jeanty is one of the best running back prospects in quite some time. The running back position is very deep in this year’s draft. He had a sensational 2024 college football season with the Broncos, but he did not win the Heisman Trophy. Travis Hunter, cornerback/wide receiver from the Colorado Buffaloes, won the Heisman Trophy instead. Will Jeanty potentially be drafted earlier than expected during the draft?
Jacksonville Jaguars Select Boise State Broncos Running Back Ashton Jeanty In Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft

“Why not? The Jaguars could go trenches here, or even take a receiver like Tetairoa McMillan to create a Twin Towers combination with Brian Thomas Jr. Instead, they boost the whole offense by adding the uber-talented Jeanty, significantly upgrading the RB room with someone who is both explosive and can do the little things in the passing game and as a pass protector. No more wasted touches in Jacksonville.”
For now, the running backs on Jacksonville’s roster are Travis Etienne Jr., Tank Bigsby, and Kellan Robinson. Adding Jeanty to a room with already having Etienne in it would be very interesting in Jacksonville. If Jeanty is drafted fifth overall, it would be the first time since 2005 that a running back was drafted fifth overall.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did that when they selected Cadillac Williams. The last couple of times that a running back was drafted in the Top 5 in the NFL Draft was when the New York Giants selected running back Saquon Barkley second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft and when the Dallas Cowboys selected Ezekiel Elliott fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Jeanty going fifth overall to Jacksonville would be a surprise because they don’t need to draft a running back, but he is one of the top players in this draft class. He is 5’9″ and weighs 215 lbs. Jeanty rushed for 2,601 yards on 374 carries and 29 touchdowns, along with averaging 7.0 yards per carry. He also caught 23 passes for 138 yards receiving and one touchdown, along with averaging 6.0 yards per reception.
His longest rush in the 2024 college football season was 77 yards and his longest reception was 18 yards. Jeanty also has not lost a fumble or fumbled the football in three seasons with Boise State. The Jaguars are not a likely landing spot for him. The Las Vegas Raiders at six, the Carolina Panthers at eight, the Chicago Bears at 10, or the Dallas Cowboys at 12 feel like the most likely landing spots for the star running back also.
