The Jacksonville Jaguars hope for a better outcome in 2025 and contend for the AFC South division and a playoff berth in Liam Coen’s first year as head coach after failing to reach the playoffs in 2023 and 2024. For that to happen, the quarterback position needs to play lights out. They also need to stay healthy after their $275 million starter battled injuries last year.

[Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union]Trevor Lawrence suffered an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles and missed the next two games. Lawrence returned in Week 13 against the Houston Texans, but his return was cut short after he suffered a concussion in the second quarter. As a result, the Jaguars placed him on season-ending injured reserve in Week 14, and he underwent shoulder surgery two weeks later.
Jacksonville Jaguars QB gets major update
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (16) warms up before an NFL football matchup Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024 at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. [Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union]According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN, although Liam Coen doesn’t have a specific plan for how much throwing he does, Trevor Lawrence is expected to participate in voluntarily organized team activities (OTAs). However, Lawrence will not have a full workload, and he will be on a pitch count this spring.
“As we lead in, we’re optimistic that we’ll get there in terms of where we need to go,” Coen said Wednesday. “He’ll be on a pitch count for those things. In terms of the where he has to get to, because he has little touch points he needs to reach before he can obviously get out onto the grass and do it full speed, everything’s moving forward. He feels really good right now, so excited about that.”
He doesn’t have a deadline for him to be cleared

“We don’t play a game until this fall, so obviously I’m going to be ready sooner than that, so I’m very optimistic I’ll be perfectly good for the season,” Lawrence said via DiRocco. “… I’m throwing, and obviously I’m kind of progressing and working my way up further distance, more throws, just trying to be smart and not just jump off into the deep end right away. Just trying to work up to it.”
