Bill Belichick won’t be coaching in the NFL in 2024–at least for now with all coaching vacancies filled–but Commissioner Roger Goodell doesn’t see the legendary tactician taking a break from the game.
At the start of the Super Bowl festivities on Monday, Goodell had a live interview where he answered various questions pertaining to the league. He was even asked about the Taylor Swift effect to the NFL amid criticisms and conspiracy theories about it.
One question that stood out, however, was about Belichick not getting hired for a coaching position after his New England Patriots exit.
Roger Goodell Speaks Out on Bill Belichick Situation After New England Patriots Departure
It’s still unknown what Belichick will do next after he missed out on the head coaching openings around the league. Nonetheless, Goodell is confident that the six-time Super Bowl winner as Patriots coach would stay around in some capacity.
After all, it’s hard to see Belichick not being involved in the game that he has been part of for the past 49 years or so.
Goodell did admit that Belichick will be missed on the sidelines.
“I think he’ll be missed. But I have a feeling he’ll still be around the game,” the NFL Commissioner said, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
What’s Next for Bill Belichick?
With Roger Goodell’s statement, some might be asking if the league commissioner knows something about what’s going on with Bill Belichick’s search for a job. Perhaps he has some idea, though it’s not hard to make a prediction considering what has been reported so far.
Belichick has been linked to a potential media job as an analyst or commentator, and it shouldn’t be surprising if fans see him on TV a number of times next season. After all, he’s one of the brightest football minds the league has ever seen, so it might seem only fitting that he shares some of his views to the general public. That would definitely be a breath of fresh air if it really happens.
Of course there’s a chance that Belichick could opt to stay at home and wait for a coaching opportunity to open. He could also serve as a consultant for other teams.
Regardless of what he chooses to do, fans can expect Belichick to try again and search for a coaching role in 2025 when there will potentially be new openings around the league.
