Welcome to the second installment of the best acquisition series. This series reviews each division’s best acquisition from the 2023 offseason. We will review the AFC North.
Criteria for this series:
All individuals featured in this series must fulfill the specified criteria. The players on this list are those who joined a new team through trades or signings in the offseason, excluding draft picks, re-signed players, players claimed during roster cuts, regular season signings, or trades during the NFL Trade Deadline.
Note: Several teams lack a definitive player to be considered the best offseason acquisition. Teams without a definitive player are in italics.
Baltimore Ravens’ best offseason acquisition: LB Jadeveon Clowney.
Baltimore signed Jadeveon Clowney to a 1-year, $2,500,000 contract with the expectation of bringing a veteran presence and being a leader to the outside linebacker position.
Clowney exceeded expectations in his first season, recording 43 tackles, nine for a loss, 19 QB hits, 9.5 sacks, five pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.
Cincinnati Bengals’ best offseason acquisition: LT Orlando Brown Jr.
Cleveland Browns’ best offseason acquisition: DT Dalvin Tomlinson.
Cleveland signed Dalvin Tomlinson to a 4-year, $57,000,000 contract with the expectation of bringing a veteran presence to the inexperienced defensive tackle position.
Tomlinson deserves some credit for how good their defense was this season. He recorded 28 tackles, four for a loss, 12 QB hits, and three sacks.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ best offseason acquisition: LG Isaac Seumalo.
Pittsburgh signed Isaac Seumalo to a 3-year, $24,000,000 contract with the expectation of improving the offensive line and being a consistent left guard.
Seumalo played well and was their highest-graded offensive lineman. He had one penalty, zero sacks allowed, and a 71.9 PFF Grade.
