Hey FFB family, we’re back again to keep that accountability going! This week we’re taking a look at the Best and Worst of Week 2. Please note, I won’t be accounting for injured players, IE: Trey Lance or Alvin Kamara.
As always, the best and worst of week 2 are broken down by each position with a brief analysis. Let’s dive into Week 2’s accountability!
Best and Worst by position
Quarterbacks
Start
- Best: Tua Tagovailoa (QB #2)
An improbable 4th quarter comeback led Tua from having a decent day to being QB2 for week 2. Throwing for 469 yards and recording 6 touchdowns, Tua had an amazing day. I had a good feeling he’d hit one deep ball to Hill/Waddle, but I didn’t predict this many.
- Worst: Matt Ryan (QB #32)
Matt Ryan was my pick before Pittman being ruled out and would’ve changed him with Pittman’s injury announcement. This would’ve changed Ryan to “sit” with Pittman out of the lineup, but I’ll stand by my pick as I did notate this in my notes. It seems without Pittman, Ryan is below average.
Sit
- Best: Tom Brady (QB #25)
For the second week, I sat Brady and this paid off. This is now, also, due to Brady having increasingly lower amounts of players to throw to. The Bucs may pick up the victories, but Brady isn’t going to have all-world numbers. Spoiler: I’m sitting Brady next week too!
- Worst: Kyler Murray (QB #8)
Much like Tua, Kyler saved his day with a 4th quarter comeback. I’m not completely sold with Murray at quarterback and one of the few sits I’m completely okay with losing out on.
Running backs
Start
- Best: James Robinson (RB #8)
It appears that the Jaguars and Pedersen love James Robinson. He’s the clear favorite back in this RB rotation with Etienne. While he’s not racking up a ton of yards (130), he has scored three times in the last two contests. He’ll be a top RB2/bottom RB1 to consider moving forward.
- Worst: Rex Burkhead (RB #63)
Just like that, Burkhead was never seen from again. He registered nine total yards against the Broncos and did not register a carry. Evidently, the Texans feel Pierce is ready for a full workload. We should avoid Burkhead moving forward.
Sit
- Best: Cordarrelle Patterson (RB #52)
Patterson had a monster week 1 as he did last year. With Damien Williams ruled out, this signaled a potential big game from Patterson. However, matching with the Rams was a tall task and I believed Patterson did not have the skillset to have another productive game.
- Worst: Aaron Jones (RB #2)
Aaron Jones was my sit candidate as AJ Dillon is clearly the better back. That said, I’m not surprised Jones pulled out a signature game against the lowly-Bears. Where I believed Dillon would run over the Bears, it was Aaron Jones who was tasked this job. As it stands, there’s not a clear RB1 in this backfield…yet.
Wide Receivers
Start
- Best: Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR #4)
The Sun God is here! ARSB had a stellar performance all-around, not only did he catch 9 balls for 116 yards and two touchdowns, he added a 58 yard run as well. He’s a mid-WR1 option moving forward.
- Worst: Donovan Peoples-Jones (WR #115)
My head-scratcher of the week goes to: DPJ. After seeing 11 targets for 6 catches, we expected a step-up this week. However, DPJ saw only one target in this high-scoring affair. It appears there will not be any consistency amongst this Cleveland offense. DPJ is falling off fantasy radars.
Sit
- Best: Marquise Brown (WR #34)
I’ve been amongst the “haters” of Hollywood Brown. While I don’t question his skills, I do question his cohesion within this offense. He didn’t have a terrible game, but without a true WR1 in this Arizona offense, Brown has left much to be desired.
- Worst: Mike Williams (WR #8)
I’ll admit I got cute with this call. Mike Williams always shows up when the Chargers play the Chiefs, but I let his down week influence my faith in him. Closer to gametime, I ended up convincing myself to start him and advised others to do the same. Williams will get the benefit of the doubt from me moving forward.
Tight Ends
Start
- Best: Tyler Higbee (TE #5)
After last week’s performance, it showed that Stafford will look for Higbee and Kupp when he’s needing someone to bail him out. This week was no different. Higbee finished with 7 catches and 71 yards, this was good enough to finish #5 for tight ends in PPR setup. He’ll continue building a case for every week starter.
- Worst: Taysom Hill (TE #50)
This pick came on the heels of Kamara’s injury. My thought process was with Kamara out, they’ll use Hill to spark this offense. Those hopes were dashed. It seems the Saints were more confident in their aging RB, Mark Ingram, than their favorite gadget player.
Sit
- Best: Kyle Pitts (TE: #28)
It seems Twitter darling, Kyle Pitts isn’t getting the looks to live up to his hype. Pitts landed on the sit list due to matchups, but after the game his HC Arthur Smith did him no favors. “It’s not fantasy football. We’re just trying to win. We will continue to look at everything and try to get better.” Smith said via Tori McElhaney. Pitts may not be a starting option for the time being.
- Worst: Mike Gesicki (TE: #5)
Gesicki, along with Waddle/Hill, benefited from Tua’s insane 4th quarter comeback. I didn’t see this performance coming from him, but don’t see many more in the near future. His situation will be a bit more complicated to determine with a single game sample size.
Overall Percentage
Here’s the TLDR version of my best and worst of week 2 picks! My correct percentage remains 60% this is including that I’ve added more picks. It looks like I’m excelling with picking the correct QBs to start/sit.
