After a rookie campaign that saw Baltimore Ravens running back, J.K. Dobbins finished with nine touchdowns and 805 rushing yards on ONLY 134 carries(6.0 YPC, which led the league), it seemed, heading into the sophomore season, J.K. was primed for a breakout. Unfortunately, that is not what happened.
J.K. Dobbins Went from Promising to Injured
Emerging as the lead back in a run-heavy scheme behind a powerful offensive line unit there was no reason to suggest or believe anything otherwise. That was until a routine screen pass in the preseason finale against the Washington Commanders ended with J.K. Dobbins getting hit awkwardly and tearing his ACL. Just like that, all momentum and potential for his sophomore season breakout was gone. Over. Destroyed. It was a brutal blow for the Baltimore Ravens nobody saw coming, and it was only the beginning of what would end up being an injury plagued disaster of a 2021-22 season for the division champ favorites. ACL injuries, while still worrisome, aren’t what they once were, with advancements in sports medicine, training, and physical therapy we are constantly seeing athletes come back quicker, stronger and better than ever before after going through this type of injury.
What the Future Holds for J.K. Dobbins
With over a year off for recovery, J.K. Dobbins is heading into the season as the likely starting back once again. This time behind a reinforced offensive line that was addressed through free agency and the draft. with the addition of Tyler Linderbaum, a generational talent at the center position out of Iowa, a healthy All Pro Ronnie Stanley at left tackle and former New York Jet, Morgan Moses at right tackle, the best run offense in football is stocking up and looking to continue the dominance. This means that, once again and a year late, J.K. Dobbins is a breakout candidate.
