The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are fighting for their playoff lives as they are going against the Indianapolis Colts but quarterback Baker Mayfield was injured in the opening drive. The Buccaneers were on the one-yard line and went for a quarterback sneak but suffered an ankle injury.
The Buccaneers turned to backup quarterback Kyle Trask but were unable to punch the ball into the end zone and had to settle for a field goal. Baker Mayfield went to the medical tent and was visibly limping but is expected to return for this game as he was seen trying to test it out on the sidelines during their defensive drive.
Baker Mayfield has been playing well throughout the season as he is 226-of-350 (64.6 completion percentage) for 2,389 yards with 15 touchdown passes to six interceptions.
Can the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win with Baker Mayfield injured?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 4-6 this season and with no team breaking out in the NFC South, they are still in the hunt for the division and a home playoff game. Being on the road in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts is an interesting test as they are on their backup quarterback after rookie Anthony Richardson suffered a season-ending injury.
This Buccaneers team has shown the ability to win some games but are struggling as of late as they have lost four of their previous five games. Their offense, which was expected to be the stronger unit for the Buccaneers, is 23rd in the National Football League with 19.2 points per game. Their defense has been inside the top 10 in terms of points per game allowed.
This Indianapolis Colts team is going to be tough to go up against as they have a veteran backup quarterback in Gardner Minshew III and some strong skill position players in running back Jonathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. The Colts are still in the AFC South race as well so things are going to be interesting to see how this Colts team steps up. Whether it is Kyle Trask or Baker Mayfield under center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they are going to need to put up points and find the end zone to win this game on the road.
