The Atlanta Falcons are looking to move in a new direction in 2024. This started by hiring head coach Raheem Morris this offseason. However, Morris has not forgotten about Atlanta’s problems that led them to this point. He publicly called the team out at the NFL Scouting Combine to take this a step further.
Raheem Morris Criticizes Quarterback Play
This morning, Morris criticized the past quarterback play of this team. It is likely a shot at both Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke. Morris went further and stated this is the reason why he is currently the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
“If we had better quarterback play, I’m probably not standing here at this podium.”
-Raheem Morris
Atlanta Falcons’ Draft Position
The 2024 NFL Draft class is projected to be a deep one. There is certainly no shortage at the quarterback position. Right now, Atlanta holds the eighth overall pick.
In most years, this could be high enough to address the quarterback position in the first round. However, with many teams in front of them also needing a quarterback, the top options are likely going to be gone by the time the Falcons get to pick. This includes talented prospects such as Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels.
So, what alternatives do the Falcons have to address this if they can’t trade up? Atlanta could decide to take Oregon Ducks QB Bo Nix or Michigan Wolverines QB J.J. McCarthy. Or they could choose to wait until a later round to address this and take a QB such as Spencer Rattler from South Carolina.
One thing seems to be pretty clear. Morris looks like he will address this in some manner before the start of the 2024 NFL season.
