How will the Arizona Cardinals continue their rebuild heading into 2024?
Arizona Cardinals’ Intriguing Position in The 2024 NFL Draft
Despite a mixed bag of results in 2023, the Arizona Cardinals find themselves in the middle of a roster reshuffling. Sitting in one of the best spots in April’s NFL Draft, Jonathan Gannon and co. could find themselves selecting a potential franchise-changing offensive weapon in the form of Marvin Harrison Jr., or they could find a quarterback-needy time and trade back to acquire a trove of picks to help kickstart their rebuild.
In CBS Sports’ latest mock draft, the Cardinals decided to trade back with the Minnesota Vikings, where they’ll receive the 11th, 23rd, and 230th overall selections in this year’s draft while also adding the Vikings’ first-round pick in 2025.
Following their trade back, the Cardinals would select Florida State edge rusher, Jared Verse with the 11th pick.
“Arizona has a ton of picks and now they have even more as a result of the trade with the Vikings. For most teams, I would say that there is such a thing as too many draft picks for an organization, but that does not apply to the Cardinals. Jared Verse is the start of a total overhaul.”
With the 23rd pick, the Cardinals would double-dip at the edge position when they make UCLA’s Laiatu Latu the pick.
“Do I realize that I have already given Jared Verse to Arizona? Yes. Was it a mistake to give them Laiatu Latu and Verse? No. The Cardinals now have some talent and juice on the defensive line.”
Arizona Cardinals’ Disappointing 2023 Campaign
Heading into 2023, the Arizona Cardinals knew they’d be without franchise signal caller, Kyler Murray, who tore up his knee late in the 2022 season. While their 4-13 record may not show it, the Cardinals surprised a lot of people with their knack of keeping just about all 17 games on their schedule close heading late into the fourth quarter.
With Kyler Murray seemingly 100% healthy to go along with scheduled picks four and 27 on the docket in April’s 2024 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals could be in for quite the bounce-back in 2024.
