Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray, has had a difficult past couple of years since signing a 5-year extension back in 2022. After news came out that revealed a “film study” clause in his contract – which was eventually removed, Murray had both his 2022 and 2023 seasons cut short by an ACL tear in December 2022.
Arizona Cardinals’ Future Potentially Looking Up?
And in going 4-13 this past season, one would imagine that things are not necessarily looking up for the Phoenix-based franchise, who have yet to win a Super Bowl championship.
However, towards the back end of the season, the Cardinals were one of the better “bad” teams in the NFL, and despite a complete lack of talent on all 3 levels of the defense, the team played a physical brand of aggressive football under new head coach, Jonathan Gannon.
General manager, Monti Ossenfort, has set the team up for a strong future with shrewd trades made in the 2023 draft that netted the Cardinals an extra 1st, and 2 extra 3rd round picks in this year’s draft.
And now it seems, were there any question about it, like Kyler Murray will be Arizona’s QB for the foreseeable future, as Tom Pelissero announced an important update on his future on Saturday afternoon.
By being on the #Cardinals’ roster at 4 p.m. ET today, Kyler Murray now has an additional $29.9 million fully guaranteed for 2025, on top of the $35.3M he’s guaranteed this season on the contract he signed in July 2022.

Kyler Murray Entrenched As The Cardinals’ Franchise Quarterback
This seemed like the obvious route going forward, but the fact that he now has money guaranteed for the following year shows an extra level of commitment to the 2 x Pro Bowl and former Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Although things have not always gone smoothly for Kyler in his first 5 years in Phoenix, making the playoffs just one time over the course of his time as starter, during which the Cardinals were completely outplayed by division rivals and eventual champions, the Los Angeles Rams.
Even now, despite bringing in an entirely new defensive line in free agency, the Arizona Cardinals do not give off the vibe of a team going all out to win now – especially considering the lack of recruits at wide receiver.
Yet, Arizona likely knows they are in for a multi-year rebuild, and knows that it may take multiple drafts to get back to the level of competing with the conference and divisional “big boys” like the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.
