It’s safe to say that former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner is still not over his team’s loss in Super Bowl XLII against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Warner, the team’s unquestioned leader during the 2008 season, brought the Cardinals to their first-ever Super Bowl, facing off against the Ben Roethlisberger-led Steelers. The two teams played an all-time thriller, with Pittsburgh edging Arizona 27-23. With the upcoming Super Bowl on the horizon, Steelers fan Matthew Luciow shared one of the biggest plays from the Cardinals-Steelers big game, a 100-yard pick-six from Pittsburgh’s James Harrison. Warner quote tweeted Luciow’s video, which captioned, “This is the greatest play in Super Bowl History,” saying, “Kind of depends on who you ask!!!!”

Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison: Picks Off Kurt Warner to End First Half of Super Bowl XLII
With 18 seconds remaining in the second quarter and the Arizona Cardinals on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ two-yard-line, Red Birds quarterback Kurt Warner looked to hit star wideout Anquan Boldin on the go-ahead touchdown. However, Steelers linebacker James Harrison dropped into coverage, stepping in front of Boldin’s slant route for an interception. With a sea of blockers, Harrison narrowly outran Cardinals future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald for a 100-yard pick-six. After an official review, the play stood, giving the Steelers a commanding 17-7 halftime lead.
However, the Cardinals roared back, taking a 23-20 lead late in the fourth quarter. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger led his team on an eight-play, 78-yard drive to take back the lead, firing a touchdown pass to wide receiver Santonio Holmes. The pick-six by Harrison, that season’s Defensive Player of the Year, became a deciding factor in Pittsburgh’s one-possession win.
Arizona Cardinals: Far From Returning to Super Bowl
The Cardinals have not returned to the Super Bowl since losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Arizona came close in 2015, making the NFC Championship with quarterback Carson Palmer, but got blown out by the Carolina Panthers. The Cardinals went 4-13 this season, the worst record in the NFC West. They played much of the season without quarterback Kyler Murray as he rehabbed from a torn ACL. The Cardinals own the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draft.
