The NFL is reportedly planning to push an 18-game regular-season schedule, and sure enough, not everyone is a fan of it. Count former star wide receiver Antonio Brown as one of them.
Brown didn’t hide his disappointment over the alleged plan, sharing his belief that it is made for the benefit of the teams and the league but not the players.
NFL Pushing for 18 Games?

On Sunday, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk published a report claiming that there is “lingering sense the NFL still wants to get to 18 regular-season games.” Florio said that the “push” for the proposal “hasn’t been abandoned, health and safety concerns be damned.”
The veteran NFL insider shared that one major hint that teams would push hard for the the potential 18-game schedule is Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry’s recent proposal to delay the trade deadline by 14 days, making it to the Tuesday after Week 10 instead of the Tuesday after Week 8.
“Berry said that one week was aimed at accounting for the extra week created by the 17th regular-season game — and that the second week was in anticipation of further expansion of the regular season, to 18 games,” Florio wrote.
“That happened on Tuesday. In talking to folks after that, I mentioned Berry’s plan, with the anticipation of another game. The reaction was, basically, ‘Yeah. That’s coming.'”

Sure enough, looking at the financial perspective, more games mean more money for the NFL. With the popularity of the league at an all-time high, and as games continue to be played outside the United States, it only makes sense to capitalize on that.
But the problem is the players’ health. American football is a physical and violent sport. More games also mean the higher risk of injury. And if the top players get injured often, it also won’t be good for the league.
Antonio Brown Concerned About Players’ Health Amid NFL Plan

Antonio Brown, for his part, is one of those concerned over the health effects of a potential NFL expansion to the players. He particularly cited the risk of sustaining CTE, or a brain condition that is believed to be linked to repeated head injuries.
“Worried about CTE, but let’s play more games,” Brown wrote on X while using the hashtag #CTESPN.
Brown has been claiming for some time now that he has CTE as a result of his NFL career. While it is a self-diagnosis from the former Pittsburgh Steelers star, no one can deny the dangers that NFL players put themselves into whenever they play.
That is the nature of the game, and unfortunately, players can’t do anything about it. The NFL can certainly do something to better improve the safety of the players. However, adding more games isn’t a solution to that.
