The New England Patriots have fallen into disarray in recent memory, having finished 4-13 in 2023 and finally parting ways with Bill Belichick after the season-ending loss to the New York Jets. However, that has not stopped AppleTV from releasing its documentary series “The Dynasty”, a look into the franchise throughout the 20-season run that began with Brady’s draft day in 2000 to the NFL legend leaving for Tampa Bay in 2020.
Despite the generally positive reception that the series received over its month-long, ten-episode run, a growing number of former Patriots players, including the likes of Rob Gronkowski, and current GM Robert Kraft, have sounded off on their displeasure on how the filmmakers and Apple have seemed to have gotten the story wrong about Belichick’s tenure.
Another legend has since joined that growing list.
Ty Law Joins Vince Wilfork, Other Legends in Sounding Off About “The Dynasty”
Ty Law joined Vince Wilfork (among others) in criticizing the AppleTV docuseries this week. Law, who says he recorded about a day’s worth of sound bites for the series, told fellow Patriots legend Julian Edelman about both his experience working on the documentary and how the series continues to shed Bill Belichick in a less-than-stellar light, according to Gayle Troiani of NESN and the “Games with Names” Podcast:
“I don’t like what I’m hearing about how they’re making Bill look. How they’re portraying Bill. … I don’t like it because they made him look like the bad guy. I don’t like that.”
Law would also admit that he believed that the series could stand toe-to-toe with The Last Dance, ESPN’s smash hit look into the final season of Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls that will celebrate the fourth anniversary of its first two episodes releasing on April 19th.
Law would also add the following about how the producers of the series seemingly picked and chose his soundbites, a common criticism shared by both the former players and Kraft:
“They took a couple of sound bites,” Law added. “But it was a hell of a lot more to the story as far as how I view things, and they didn’t quite put that in there.”
Tom Brady Will Soon Be Inducted To Patriots Hall of Fame, Will Belichick Follow?
Despite all of the negatives that the growing list of legends has noted about their portrayal in the documentary, the team will be looking forward to the induction of Brady into the team’s Hall of Fame. On June 12th, the Patriots will honor Brady after having chosen to waive their typical four-year wait period, and the date represents both Brady’s six Super Bowl rings and his #12 jersey number.
Belichick remains in the strong belief that he will find a job in 2025, if not sooner, so it may take some time for the on-field architect of the Patriots’ dynasty to join his former quarterback in receiving the highest honor the franchise would be able to bestow onto them.
