Alabama Football: Fans Outraged After Crimson Tide Barely Survive Home Battle Against South Carolina – Week 7

The Alabama football program has won double-digit games every season since 2008, albeit competing in the SEC. Entering this weekend, the Alabama Crismon Tide held a 4-1 record and a spot near the top of the AP Poll Top 25 but fell to the Vanderbilt Commodores the week prior in what many pundits considered the upset of the decade. Naturally, the expectation for Alabama against the South Carolina Gamecocks at home this Saturday was a massive bounce-back performance as more than a three-touchdown favorite.

However, after jumping out to a 14-0 lead, similar to the hot start they orchestrated against the Georgia Bulldogs in late September, the Crimson Tide found themself nursing a two-point lead with under a minute remaining and South Carolina’s offense at midfield. On the final play of regulation, Gamecock gunslinger LaNorris Sellers launched an interception, with Alabama football avoiding back-to-back regular season losses since 2007. The Bama faithful breathed a sigh of relief following Alabama’s victory against the SEC foe.

According to J.D. Pickell of On3:

The concerning part isn’t that it was close (I think South Carolina is a good Program) it’s that Alabama historically would’ve absolutely kicked in the door and OBLITERATED whoever was next on their schedule after a loss the game before.

Following a historic road loss against the Vanderbilt Commodores the week prior, Alabama football hosted the 3-2 South Carolina Gamecocks at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Across the past five seasons, the Alabama Crimson Tide have outscored their opponents 134-25 following a regular season loss. After getting out to a somewhat comfortable 14-0 lead early in the second quarter, South Carolina scored a passing touchdown, a safety, and a field goal in the final two minutes of the first half. In the third quarter, the Gamecocks took the lead on a one-yard touchdown plunge from running back Rocket Sanders.

Still, Alabama’s offense finally came to life in the fourth quarter, answering with two touchdown scores courtesy of dual-threat passer Jalen Milroe. The Crimson Tide could not end the game on the final drive, allowing a South Carolina score that cut the lead to 27-25, the eventual final result. However, Alabama’s opponent had multiple opportunities to tie or take the lead, failing on a two-point conversion and falling short in the final seconds of regulation after recovering an outside kick. The rollercoaster performance had Alabama fans disappointed with the team’s effort following a horrific loss the week prior:
