The Alabama Crimson Tide has not had a lot of good news in the past week. After Nick Saban retired, a wave of players entered the transfer portal. However, there is another side to the equation. New head coach Kalen DeBoer will likely bring some players with him from Washington. Former Washington Huskies quarterback Austin Mack, a young quarterback oozing with potential, announced he is committing to the program.

It didn’t take long for Mack to follow DeBoer to Tuscaloosa. The former Huskie is a raw prospect, but his measurables are great. Standing at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, the young player has the potential to be special in a couple of years. At just 17 years old, he will need a lot of coaching, and apparently, he prefers to be around DeBoer. He will also get the chance to start in the future for one of the premier college football programs.
Some Good News
This won’t help the Crimson Tide in 2024. Jalen Milroe is the starter, and Mack is too raw to be a backup. DeBoer sees the potential and is hoping that he can groom him to be the next quarterback. Many of the former Washington players have been rumored to commit to Texas, which is interesting. They won’t follow their coach to the new program, which happens often. There is still a lot to figure out with the transfer portal, thanks to all the coaching shake-up.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will be a team to watch in 2024. Will they be able to compete, or will they need a year or two to stabilize under a new coach?
