Welcome to the fourth installment of the best acquisition series. This series reviews each division’s best acquisition from the 2023 offseason. We will review the AFC West.
Criteria for this series
All individuals featured in this series must fulfill the specified criteria. The players on this list are those who joined a new team through trades or signings in the offseason, excluding draft picks, re-signed players, players claimed during roster cuts, regular season signings, or trades during the NFL Trade Deadline.
Note: Several teams lack a definitive player to be considered the best offseason acquisition. Teams without a definitive player are in italics.
Denver Broncos’ best offseason acquisition: DL Zach Allen
Denver signed Zach Allen to a 3-year, $45,750,000 contract with the expectation of being Dre’Mont Jones’ replacement.
Allen played well, recording 60 tackles, eight for a loss, 24 QB hits, five sacks, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble.
Kansas City Chiefs’ best offseason acquisition: LB Drue Tranquill
Kansas City signed Drue Tranquill to a 1-year, $3,000,000 contract with the expectation of being a reliable backup to the linebacker position.
Tranquill played well, making eight starts and filling in for the injured Nick Bolton, who missed time with a dislocated wrist.
Tranquill recorded 78 tackles, seven for a loss, seven QB hits, 4.5 sacks, one pass deflection, and two forced fumbles.
Tranquill will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Las Vegas Raiders’ best offseason acquisition: RG Greg Van Roten
Las Vegas signed Greg Van Roten to a 1-year, $1,600,000 contract with the expectation of being their starting right guard and improving their weakest position on the offensive line.
Van Roten played well and turned the position into a strength with zero penalties, five sacks allowed, and a 75.3 PFF Grade.
Van Roten will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Los Angeles Chargers’ best offseason acquisition: LB Eric Kendricks
Los Angeles signed Eric Kendricks to a 2-year, $13,250,000 contract with the expectation of bringing leadership to the defense and being their number-one middle linebacker.
Kendricks played well, recording 117 tackles, seven for a loss, seven QB hits, 3.5 sacks, six pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
