Over the course of this offseason, four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers has seen the list of perspective teams that at one point expressed interest in signing him for the 2025 season dwindle and dwindle. When the New York Jets first reported that they planned on moving on from the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, fans and analysts from multiple markets began imagining, for better or worse, what their teams would look like with him on them.
But, as the weeks went by, teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and New York Giants all settled on different answers in regard to the quarterback position on their teams. Now, just the Pittsburgh Steelers remain, and they have contract parameters in place in the event he chooses to play for them in 2025.
But they also are not counting on that happening, and are exploring other options as well.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Could Be in Play for Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Kirk Cousins Over Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers reportedly met with the Steelers’ coaches and front office in a lengthy meeting last week. However, he did not sign a contract and, according to multiple officials, does not have a deadline to do so.
The sticking point, presumably, is that Rodgers is not sure if he even wants to play at all in 2025. At 41 years old, he has already had a long career and putting his body through the rigors of another NFL season is something that he certainly should take his time considering.
But the Steelers also have jobs to do, and one of them is making sure they have a quarterback for next season (other than Mason Rudolph).
According to Daniel Flick of Sports Illustrated, this is why they have started asking about Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins:
“Cousins is largely looking at two landing spots: the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. But the Steelers are waiting on a different veteran — Aaron Rodgers — while the Browns, who own the No. 2 overall pick, have been working out the top quarterbacks in the 2025 draft class.”
Cousins, of course, is looking for a trade because he was benched by the Falcons last season in favor of rookie Michael Penix Jr. Unlike Rodgers, Cousins is certain he wants to continue playing football in 2025, but he wants to go somewhere he can start.
He could start in Pittsburgh, but it sounds like the Steelers are waiting on Rodgers before they make any other decisions.
Hopefully they do not regret it.
