Over the last few weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been heavily connected to future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While he has not signed yet, it still seems likely that he will end up signing with the Steelers when everything is said and done.
Rodgers would be an excellent short-term pickup. He has another year or two left in the NFL before riding off into the sunset and retiring.
However, in addition to a win-now quarterback, Pittsburgh needs to figure out what the future holds under center as well. With the 2025 NFL Draft right around the corner, there are a few options that the team could take a look at.
All of that being said, the team has been predicted to make a huge pivot away from Rodgers to an 81-touchdown quarterback option.
Pittsburgh Steelers Predicted to Make Huge Pivot from Aaron Rodgers to 81-TD QB
Fox Sports analyst Geoff Schwartz has predicted that the Steelers will end up landing Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dart would give Pittsburgh an option who could start now, but would certainly be a long-term piece of the puzzle for the team.
“As of this writing, the Steelers’ quarterback room consists of Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. That’s just not acceptable if you’re trying to win like the Steelers presumably are. So it’s Dart for the Steelers, unless they sign Aaron Rodgers. ”
Even if the Steelers were to sign Rodgers, Dart could be a perfect option. He would be given more time to develop from the sideline and learn behind one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
During his college career at Ole Miss, Dart totaled a 65.2% completion percentage to go along with 11,970 yards, 81 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. He also picked up 1,541 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
Keep an eye on Dart as a potential target for the franchise with the No. 21 overall pick on April 24.
