The Packers fell to the Chiefs 17-10 in their final preseason game. As with all of the preseason games, the final score really doesn’t matter. What matters is how certain players performed. Here are 3 takeaways from the Packers final preseason game.
Quay Walker Looks Ready
A huge positive from the Packers final preseason game was the performance of Quay Walker. He quickly racked up five tackles and at that point the Packers coaching staff had seen enough. It isn’t that he just got tackles. Walker is flying all over the field to be involved in the play. His coverage on running backs is excellent due to his speed. The Packers need help from their rookies and with Walker being their first round pick, there was definitely pressure. Quay Walker is one of the good takeaways from the Packers preseason game.
What Do the Packers Do At WR After the Final Preseason Game?
Matt LaFleur and his staff have their work cut out for them. Every wide receiver seems to be performing well. While Romeo Doubs didn’t do much tonight, he has had highlight plays all preseason. Juwann Winfree has looked solid and even made some nice blocks on the outside tonight. Amari Rodgers looked better tonight as the Packers found creative ways to use him. Samori Toure is the Packers leading receiver this preseason. Cutting any of these players is going to be hard because chances are they do not clear waivers meaning the Packers cannot simply sign them to the practice squad. Who they keep and who they cut will be interesting to see.
The Packers Special Teams Are Still Bad
Bad isn’t even the word to describe the special teams. The Packers special teams were atrocious. The whole game was a grab bag of special teams mistakes. It seemed as though the players were holding a competition to see who could make the most boneheaded special teams play. Muffed kicks, missed blocks, and poor tackling were on display in the final preseason game. This is a problem that is supposed to be solved. The lone bright spot was punter Pat O’Donnell. He boomed some punts that went unnoticed because the coverage team missed so many tackles. The Packers have to solve this issue before Week 1.
The next time we see the Packers on the field, they will be playing a regular season game. There are still so many questions surrounding the team that a lot of fans, including myself, were hoping to be answered by now. The Packers have a couple of weeks before heading to Minnesota. For now, we look at the takeaways from the Packers final preseason game and hope they can solve some issues before then.
