Caleb Williams has finally addressed the rumors that he has no interest in playing for the Chicago Bears. The USC Trojans product has dispelled that notion in a recent interview with ESPN. He even gave a solid outlook for the Bears, who still have Justin Fields in the fold.
“If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” he said. “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
Williams also made it clear that he’s not trying to drop any hint that could influence the optics of the 2024 NFL Draft with regard to his potential destination.
“I’m not pushing any agenda,” Williams said. “At the end of the day, the Bears have the last say. Regardless of how I feel, I’m not pushing an agenda of, ‘Yeah, I want to go. Or no, I don’t want to go.’ I’m excited for whatever comes.”
Caleb Williams Has Complicated The Outlook Of Justin Fields’ Future With The Chicago Bears
Considered by many as the sureshot No. 1 pick at the draft, Williams’ expected arrival in Windy City has brought attention to what the Chicago Bears will do exactly with Fields. There is the option for them to trade Fields, and they have said that they will be transparent with him if that’s the route they’d take.
If the Chicago Bears surprisingly go the other way and not pick Williams with their top pick, that will open the door for the Washington Commanders to take him. With that said, it is worth noting that the Commanders have a new offensive coordinator in Kliff Kingsbury, who was with the Trojans last season. In any case, Williams has everyone’s attention.
