Shanahan plays offensive tackle currently but projects as a guard or center in college. Shanahan moves well on the field, with the physical strength to dominate nose tackles and defensive tackles. TJ has the athleticism to climb to the next level in a zone scheme or pull in a gap scheme. He displays a mean streak on the field, showing a desire to pancake every opposition player. TJ is a mauler and a brawler, possessing the aggressive mentality you want from linemen.
Westlake uses Shanahan on screens and he excels in space. TJ is equally adept at run blocking and pass blocking. He is someone who can come in immediately and compete for playing time at guard. He projects as someone who plays four games his freshman year while providing depth as a backup and then redshirt for the rest of the season.
TJ is rated as a four star recruit and one of the top 150 recruits in the nation on the 247 Composite. Shanahan is the #6 OL nationally and #28 recruit in the State of Texas. TJ Shanahan joins Chase Bisontis, Naquil Betrand, and Colton Thomasson as 2023 commits to the Maroon Goons.
